Diaversary Diabetes Carnival o'Fun

Me: Ella, what do you want to do for your First Diaversary?
Ella: Have a party where we play fun diabetes games and invite all of my T1D friends.
Me: What are fun diabetes games?
Ella: Oh, you know. Like check your blood sugar and whoever has the highest & lowest wins...

And thus was born our

Guess the # of Sharps
Go ahead...take your best guess!

And, of course, prizes!!

We had a great time.
I love being surrounded by Type 1 Families.
And Type 1 kids are just the absolute best.

I also had our family photographer, Amy Fink at Belliveau Photography take some photos of Ella & her Diabetes Gear. I LOVE the way they turned out.
Because they show a happy, healthy, joyful girl who just happens to have Type 1 Diabetes.
And who looks darned cute rocking it!

This is me & my bag o'goodies...

This is my insulin needle...

 Take that, Diabetes!

I am Strong

Mom told me to check my blood sugar.
This just happens to be my favorite finger to poke.
Mom laughed and said: PERFECT!

354?? Ummm...I think there's something wrong with the new site!?!

Me & My Low Busters.
I get to eat more candy now than before I was diagnosed!

Happy First Diaversary, Ella!

  1. Oh my goodness....I just LOVE everything about this! Love the pop the balloon with the syringe, love that you all drink crystal light as much as we do, love all the yummy treats labeled with carb counts, guess the sharps container and especially love all those adorable pictures of your girl and rockin' the pod! What a fun way to celebrate living life to the fullest for the past year with all her friends and raising awareness at the same time!

    1. All of the work was so worth watching the kids have fun. Ella has now discovered sparkling flavored water. It's her new favorite thing. I get asked all the time about aspartame and I always reply: that's the least of my worries! HA!

    1. Thanks. I'm trying to figure out a way to tastefully blow up and hang the finger poke one in my house...

    1. Hmmm...perhaps we should have Diabetes Carnival at the next Friends for Life Concerence?

    1. Sure! Anytime! We'll set up the balloon pop game. Tossing insulin needles at blue balloons is strangely therapeutic.

    1. I heard one of her little non T1D friends ask her Mom if she could have diabetes so she could have an awesome party, too. HAHA! Yeah. All the cool kids are doing it.

  6. This looks like so much fun! I really got choked up at the beginning when she asked to: "invite all of my T1D friends". If I had a party as a kid with all of my T1D friends, I'd be the only one there. Ella is so lucky.

But unlucky, sad to say, is the poor soul who has to (carefully!) count everything in that sharps container...

    1. We are so lucky to have an amazing group of T1D families in our area. I cannot begin to say how helpful their support was as we navigated through the first year. I was the pore soul who had to count out those sharps...all 196 of them!
